It has been a long journey since the first iteration of what we call the “Research Hub.” From modest beginnings of the creation of research centers that would be housed within the hub to a full staff engaged in conducting and exploring research within the College of Doctoral Studies, it began with aspirational strides
Back in 2010, the College of Doctoral Studies began the long trek for establishing a research enterprise that would not only engage the vantage for establishing a reputation in the world of research, but also as an example for the aspiring scholar-practitioner.
During 2013-2014, positioning to set the conceptual framework in place began with the initial hiring of professional researchers to help launch the 21st century research-based centers. In this, the virtual home for the chairs would eventually become known as the "research hub." With the research enterprise’s auspicious beginnings, the web address for the research hub was established as research.phoenix.edu. The virtual platform and address would also become the home and workspace for the research centers for quite some time to come.
Since that time under the guidance of the Vice Provost Dr. Hinrich Eylers, the research hub, which began on a platform known as Drupal 7, the work of the centers has been proliferous, amassing a large inventory of content while also providing a place for researchers who have been interested in the work of the centers to join a community of scholars. For others, the hub has been utilized for the many resources offered, alongside the collaborative research work that has always taken place over the years.
In 2017, the hub the hub evolved once again, becoming more streamlined in focus so that centers directly aligned to the university's core programs, as well, becoming a more crystalized tool for students, faculty, staff and alumni to engage through the provisioning of workshops, an annual conference, opportunities to publish, research projects, funding, and more.
Around 2019, more conversations were explored concerning the usefulness of the hub’s existing platform on Drupal 7. A long and detailed analysis of better opportunities to migrate the hub became more urgent as we explored alternatives for a site that could be updated to meet our current needs.
In 2022, with the help of several key people like Andrea Smiley, VP for Public Relations for UOPX, and others, we were finally able to begin a strategic and realistic look at building an entirely new site. Work officially began conceptually on the new site in late August of 2022 and has now moved into an almost completed state.
The calendar year of 2023 will be an exciting time, offering us more possibilities for reaching more people when it comes to the work of the university's professional scholar practitioners. All affiliates on the current hub site will begin seeing communications about the changes.
Now that we are a more incorporated force within the University’s use of AEM-Adobe Experience Manager, we can run faster and harder than ever before, alongside better SEO-Search Engine Optimization potentials.
We invite you to visit the new site at phoenix.edu/research at your earliest convenience and click around to get acquainted with the location of content. The navigation links on the left side of the screen (top for mobile) serve as a table of contents to get you to the information you need quickly. If you have bookmarks for the old site, we encourage you to replace them with bookmarks for the new site.
As we embark on a new prospect for a wider spread audience and more efficient processes, we are looking at building up, rather than simply holding on to out-of-date and older resources. We encourage your collaboration with the chairs on new and exciting possibilities. We also know that change brings questions and so we have offered some initial answers to questions that you may have initially about Hub 2.0.
