SPAN/110 is an introductory course in conversational Spanish. The objective of the course is to teach students basic vocabulary and grammar with an emphasis on the meaningful use of the language and an introduction to Hispanic cultures. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to communicate effectively in Spanish, using basic words and phrases learned during the course.

  • Memorize and recall Ch. 3 vocabulary.
  • Describe physical aspects and personality traits of each family member.
  • List one’s daily activities using –ER and –IR verbs in the present tense.
  • Explain and state possession and ownership using possessive adjectives.
  • Describe hobbies and other activities using pronouns after prepositions
  • Define oneself and others using the idiomatic expression with the verb tener.
  • Compare and contrast cultural aspects.

  • Memorize and recall Ch. 4 vocabulary.
  • Describe one’s home.
  • State and use the numbers higher than 100.
  • Compare people and objects using specific expressions.
  • Recognize and recall stem-changing verbs in the present tense while listing daily activities.
  • Identify and utilize adverbs when describing how to perform certain tasks.
  • Compare and contrast cultural aspects.

  • Describe one’s daily routine using reflexive verbs.
  • State what one does for each other using reciprocal verbs.
  • List one’s clothing and describe it.
  • Identify demonstrative adjectives and pronouns.
  • Describe one’s intent to perform an action using reflexive verbs in the infinitive.
  • State what one is doing at the moment, using the present progressive.
  • Explain how months and date are used to schedule events.
  • Describe months, weather, and seasons.
  • Compare and contrast cultural aspects.
