Course level: Upper Division

This course explores the critical thinking techniques necessary to be an effective manager within an organizational setting. Students will focus on critical thinking and reasoning methods as they apply to management concepts within a work environment. Other topics include the use of critical thinking skills in the decision-making process as it applies for successful performance of employees and organizations and achieving desired business goals.

Course skills and outcomes

Explain how critical thinking is used to evaluate the reasoning behind arguments and beliefs.

Describe steps involved in effective argumentation.

Analyze the effects of literal, figurative, and vague language on one’s credibility and ability to make effective arguments.

Identify various logical structures of arguments.

Assess different types of fallacies, including how to identify and correct faulty reasoning.

Apply critical thinking and different types of reasoning to make effective business decisions.
