Course level: Undergraduate

This course provides a foundation in the basic telecommunications and networking technologies fundamental to the industry and to the broad field of telecommunications. Network routing, switching, and Wi-Fi are covered. Also covered in this course is an introduction to the OSI model, the TCP/IP model, basics of wireless communications standards, and network security.

  • Distinguish fundamental WAN concepts and terminology.
  • Compare and contrast the use of routers and switches on LANs and WANs.
  • Differentiate key applications of cloud computing.

  • Use network management tools.
  • Choose troubleshooting tools needed to verify and manage network communication.
  • Apply troubleshooting techniques using Wireshark or TCPdump.

  • Explain important security exploitations, unauthorized use, and modifications of systems, infrastructure, and the cloud.
  • Apply potential threat detection and protection techniques.
