Medical billing and coding is a role within the Medical Records and Health Information field. The move to electronic health records systems and an aging population is impacting this field. According to the BLS*, the role of a medical records and health information technician is to organize and manage health information data by ensuring it maintains its quality, accuracy, accessibility and security in both paper files and electronic systems.

Our Medical Billing & Coding Fundamentals professional development course is self-paced, consists of 45-60 hours of content, and you have 12 months to complete it.
The BLS* projects an 8% growth between 2019 and 2029 for Medical Records and Health Information Technicians.
Typically, the Medical Records and Health Information Technicians role requires a post-secondary certificate such as our Medical Records Certificate program. This program also prepares you to sit for the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) exam, a national industry certification offered through the National Healthcare Association.
While completion of a college course or professional development course might help fill a skills gap, it may not lead to employment in this role.
