Course level: Upper Division

This course provides an overview of the role of the human service worker as a change agent with a focus on the application of theory and skills necessary for providing interventions and direct service delivery to individuals and groups. Specifically, students will develop competence in professional skills such as case management, client intake and interviewing, and basic group and individual counseling techniques. Additionally, students will learn how to access resources, use consultation, and make referrals.

  • Explain how a change agent delivers consultation to clients by helping to choose appropriate treatment interventions.
  • Explain the specific process required for case managers in making referrals for clients’ well-being.
  • Identify a case manager’s role in linking clients to community resources.

  • Develop a client treatment plan that outlines the criteria needed to achieve quality service delivery.
  • Assess the effectiveness of the treatment plan’s goals and objectives.
  • Determine when to close a case based on a client’s progress or achievement.
